About the event
Mental Health Awareness Month intends to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in our lives. We emphasize the mental health needs of our Black and Brown Queer and Trans brothers, sisters, and siblings. This panel highlights the diverse experiences of educators and psychologists in addressing health and healing in our Trans* communities. All of the panelists will explore Black Queer Joy, the current challenges and opportunities in our community, and how to support thriving with our trans siblings.
Meet our panelists:
- Cory Nyamora, Psy.D. (He/Him/His) Dr. Cory Nyamora is the founder and director of Endurance – A Sports & Psychology Center. This company provides psychological services, sports training, and travel to people of all ages. Dr. Nyamora is also an Endurance sports coach and has integrated sports training and physical activity into his work. He specializes in sports psychology and works with athletes, LGBTQ individuals, and people of color. He provides training and workshops for organizations and athletes on the intersections of sports, performance, mental health, and overall wellness.
- Dr. Kofi Adoma (pronounced doe-MAH ) (She/Her/Hers) Dr. Kofi Adoma (Amorie Robinson) she/her is a licensed clinical psychologist in Detroit, Michigan. After working 20 years in criminal and juvenile justice psychiatric court clinics, Dr. Kofi began as an Associate Director in Behavioral Health at the Ruth Ellis Center in 2020, an agency serving at-risk LGBT+ youth, to which she is a co-founder. She is also a psychotherapist at the Radical Well-Being Center in the evening hours. Dr. Kofi earned her B.A. in Psychology at Oberlin College and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Michigan, where she later guest lectured women’s studies and psychology courses. She conducts trainings for mental health providers on cultural responsiveness with Black LGBT+ clients and has published academic articles that include Black lesbian youth/adult resiliencies, Black women wellness, and Black LGBT and gender nonconforming youth in juvenile justice. As a community organizer, Dr. Kofi co-founded the ALORDE Collective for Black lesbians and several other grassroots organizations. She is a member of the Association of Black Psychologists and Association for Women in Psychology, and she has served on both national boards. For self-care, Dr. Kofi enjoys playing djembe drum and violin, dancing, camping, biking, and watching movies.
- Mx. Trinitee Wilson (They/Them/Theirs) Mx. Trinitee Wilson––Social Change Advocate, Recruitment Officer, and Founder of BLAQ5683––is a transplant to Philadelphia from Rochester, NY, where their work with BIPOC folx began, specifically those at the highest risk for HIV acquisition and their siblings in the fight who are living with HIV/AIDS. For the last 17 years, Wilson has worked with and for BIPOC folx within the TLGBQ+ community. Since relocating to Philadelphia, they've worked at local nonprofits in direct service and outreach capacities. In May 2021, Wilson began their grass-roots organization, BLAQ5683, LLC (BLAQLOVE). Through BLAQLOVE, they continue the work by providing members with services related to Workforce Development, Multimedia Design, and Sexual Wellness Consulting.
Meet our moderator:
- Malakai Coté, Ph.D. (he/him or they/them) is a licensed psychologist, clinical supervisor, and consultant whose care approaches rest in interconnection and fostering holistic healing. They earned their Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon. Dr. Coté has worked as a psychologist in university counseling center settings and non-profit community clinics. He is a part-time Clinical Services Director at The Healing Space, a University of California, Santa Barbara training clinic specializing in serving the Black community. He also clinically supervises and trains at the Gender Health Center, a grassroots community clinic that centers Queer and Trans People of Color in their services and vision. They have taught graduate-level courses in clinical psychology at Alliant International University – California Professional Psychology Program.

About our Beyond the Binary Program
Beyond the Binary is a new program that centers gender-nonconforming individuals. This program is designed to affirm, validate, and humanize their experiences while also illuminating the spectrum of gender identity. With a comfortable and conversational space, this program allows cisgender folx to become better allies and gender non-conforming folx to equip themselves with the tools and resources necessary to thrive beyond the binary.
